  19. Jean Schultz says

I started a tradition of having Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday night so I would have my grandkids with me for both Thanksgiving and Easter. When my daughter divorced, she had the kids on Easter and her ex had them on Thanksgiving. It’s worked out well over the years, after my son was married, my DIL liked it too! All the families were happy!

  20. Lisa Zach says

I have 6 kids & ever since they were little we have always spent the day after Thanksgiving putting up the Christmas tree and all of our Christmas decorations together as a family. Then we spend the following week baking Christmas cookies and candies and bars. My 5 oldest children are all boys & they help with every bit of this! Even to this day this is still my favorite week of Christmas!

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is to cut our own tree. Every year we head to the tree farm over Thanksgiving weekend and cut a tree. We put it up and decorate it the first weekend in December. ?

In anticipation of Christ’s birth, we follow the tradition of the Advent wreath. Each of its 4 candles (3 purple, 1 rose) represents one of the four weeks of Advent. A candle is lit at dinner each day and a prayer is said. The purple candles represent penance/preparation and are lit in weeks one, two, and four. The rose candle, which stands for rejoicing, is lit in week three, marking the midway point in Advent.

Now that they are 17, 15 and 3 we still do this every year. We all wait until we are together and take turns unwrapping each piece and have so much fun!

  25. Mariah says

My grandma, who holds a special place in each of my little ones’ hearts, moved into a rest home last year. The kids baked sugar cookies and gingerbread men and then we visited her on Christmas Eve. We gathered all the residents to sing Christmas carols together and then the kids helped the residents decorate cookies. It was a wonderful experience for my kids and definitely a new tradition to continue.

Since my husband is Italian we have Spagetti., the kids chose that when we started this tradition. Then we settle down and watch Christmas Vacation. Now that they are all grown and have their own families we still do it for just the 2 of us. This was my favorite part of Christmas with the kiddos.

  51. Diane says

You were pretty silly yesterday! We used to always have our big dinner on Christmas Eve so I could enjoy watching my kids open their gifts without worrying about prepping food right after breakfast. After presents, I would set out a big cheese and cracker tray, bread and leftover meat from the previous night. I also used to read Twas the Night Before Christmas before the kids went to bed on Christmas Eve.

  52. Ann says
